01 SMARTKAT HULLS

OUR NEW 460 HULLS

The new approach: The hulls with 4,6 m lenght offer a great match between high speed, smallest packing volume and sailing performance without too much splash water for the front rider. The long hulls support the buoyancy at the front of the catamaran, which stabilizes the boat under a strong back wind (reduces the duck-diving effect).

Bold is beautiful: A bold hull of 50 cm makes a clear statement of which we are very proud. The result is an approximately 25% higher buoyancy than other inflatable catamarans.

Best in class: Our extreme pressurized hulls with a maximum of 350 mbar set the benchmark for inflatable boats. The additional pressure reinforces the stiffness and increases the speed potential significantly due to less body movement. You will experience your boat going the extra mile during adventurous rides.

Material: The hulls are manufactured of a highly tear-resistant, fabric-strengthened polyester/fabric mixture for extreme light weight and secure buoyancy. The PVC is coated with a DTEX-1100 cover and UV protection for durability. Reinforced head and tail protection caps with friction coating give protection in the event of collision.

Workmanship: Two layers of fabric are "heat welded" between an exterior reinforcement band and an interior airtight band (similar to Zodiac boats). Where sections are subject to elevated stress (e.g. Power Frame intake and seams), the material is multi-layered to make it extremely robust.

Safety valves: The Halkey-Roberts valves are equipped with a double seal leak protection. Easy to operate and secures your safety at all times.

02 SMARTKAT FRAME

SIMPLE AND LIGHTWEIGHT

Aluminum Frame: Our advanced space frame construction focuses on minimizing weight while increasing overall stability. This is achieved through a simple locking mechanism and the use of ropes to increase the stiffness of the frame.

The details: Two mitre-sawed aluminum sidebars with weight/stability-optimized tube diameters are braced into the front and rear frame. This guards against rotation and achieves a 100% interlocked connection without taking on the additional weight of traditional reinforcement material.

Now comes the simplicity: The "Powerframe" gains additional stiffness because it is used as the clamping element for the trampoline net which is tightened with ropes around the aluminum frame. Bracing with these ropes significantly increases the overall stability of the boat.

Production: As the SmartKAT “Powerframe” is one of our signature elements, every frame is hand-welded by our specialists in Austria to achieve the highest quality standards and a Beaufort 6 certification.

Material: The "Powerframe" is completely crafted in surface-recompensed (anodized) aluminum for protection from corrosion in saltwater conditions.

03 SMARTKAT TRAMPOLINE

DESIGNED FOR SINGLE-HANDED SAILING

Single-handed sailing in all weather conditions: Your cockpit is customized around you for single-handed sailing, giving you all the features you need to move quickly during maneuvers, with enough space to bring along a crew or all of your gear.

The details: Two integrated storage pockets tidy up the ropes and secure your daytrip essentials. Three attached foot straps support riding out for thrill seeking sailors looking for a bit of extra speed.

Stay dry - stay comfortable: The Smartkat experience is enhanced by our one-of-a-kind "Stay Dry Technology“. The skin-friendly mesh of the trampoline gives you and your crew a perfect grip during maneuvers while ensuring that water drains on contact. Our advanced fast drying process uses the ideal material for water-based sports.

04 HIGH PERFORMANCE RIG

IDEAL FORCE DISTRIBUTION: THE KEY TO PERFORMANCE

Ideal force distribution: The perfect force distribution is key to the success of the SmartKAT, the lightest and most performing inflatable sailing catamaran. Our patented innovation ensures that you can sail your boat even in harsh conditions.

In detail: The revolutionary spanning system above the waterline (unique for inflatable catamarans) achieves unmatched stability for the entire rigging. All forces get absorbed and balanced through the centerboard and the mast, which comprise two opposite-force triangles. This stops the hull and rigging from warping, even when riding on one hull.

The result: This patented innovation effectively disconnects of the entire rigging from the hulls. No forces from the body movement of the hulls are transferred into the rigging, and the reverse is also true. Strong wind and waves have no impact on the stability and tension of the rigging, even in rough conditions. Yes, you will definitely be able to go that extra mile.

Centerboard Force Triangle: The cable of our one-piece bowsprit, in combination with two downward-strapped steel cables, stabilizes the centerboard laterally to prevent vibrations.

Mast Force Triangle: The forestay and the two shrouds stabilize the mast and counter brace the centerboard construction. All wind forces stay completely within the rigging.

05 RUDDER AND CENTERBOARD

THE HEART OF EVERY SMARTKAT

What is the advantage of a centerboard?: The answer is simple. Centerboard-based catamarans produce the best sailing performance, especially when sailing close to the wind. You have to try it to experience the superbly crisp and precise steering.

Design: The rudder and the centerboard are installed the same way: At a slightly inclined angle and with smooth surfaces to optimize hydrodynamics. This is a major contributor to the extremely high draft stability of the Smartkat, and its capacity for precise maneuvers.

Material: Due to the high forces inherent under harsh conditions, the rudder and centerboard are manufactured in aluminum and strengthened with stainless steel inserts. The lower part of the rudder and centerboard are padded with robust PVC caps for ground collision protection.

Ground Protection Mechanism: The rudder and centerboard are constructed with an automatic quick-release mechanism which engages at ground contact to both save the Smartkat from damage and protect the environment.

06 DYNEEMA SHROUDS

COMBINES THE ADVANTAGES OF CARBON FIBRE AND STEEL

Ultralight and high tensile: Our shrouds are manufactured of "High Tech Dyneema", a material that is characterized as light, very strong, with minimal stretching and the ability to be formed into loops and splices without much loss of strength. These highly loadable special lines have the same tensile strength as steel cable with only one eighth of the weight.

More Information about Dyneema: Dyneema is an incredibly tough material with the highest impact strength of any thermoplastic presently made. Dyneema is up to 15 times more resistant to abrasion than carbon steel. The strength-to-weight ratio for this material ranges from 10 to 100 times greater than steel. We use it to support the Smartkat mast against the force of high winds.

07 PERFORMANCE MAST

MODULAR AND LIGHTWEIGHT

Our High-Tech performance oriented catamaran is equipped with a state-of-the-art stiff mast to absorb wind forces. The 3-piece mast system is perfectly balanced, lightweight, and has a phenomenally high breaking point.

The ducts of the plug connections for the mast are further reinforced to give extra rigidity and strength while providing an improved bend curve.

Material: The mast pieces are made of tubular anodized aluminum profiles of equal length for ease of transportation.

08 MAIN SAIL

OPTIMIZED SAIL GEOMETRY

Trimmed for performance: Our focus is on a clean, aerodynamic sail shape. The result is a 6,2 m2 fully battened main sail, which balances power, responsiveness and ultra-light weight for an unmatched wind range. While rigging, you can feel the feather-weight softness of the sail and can already imagine how beautifully it will fill. The main sail is attached to the mast with double-layered Velcro. Easy to open and close, even in a strong wind.

Battens: The battens give you stability and responsiveness. They allow you to easily adjust the sail profile - curved profile at low wind, flat profile at strong wind. Especially in light wind conditions, it is important to set your sails with precision for maximum speed.

Boom: Performance boats need a boom. We feel strongly that this is a mandatory requirement, not an option. There’s no better way to improve sailing performance on a mobile catamaran, and it’s the only way to get a flat sail profile in a strong wind.

Material: The main sail is made of Dacron. Dacron offers a high durability and high tear-resistance. Manufacturing our sails out of this material is what enables us to guarantee their longevity. Dacron gives the sails great resilience, high UV resistance, and accelerates drying.

09 JIB / GENOA WITH ROLLER FURLING

EXTRA BOOST

The jib gives your catamaran a jolt of speed, the sail you unfurl for instant acceleration without exertion. Matching the positioning of the jib to your main sail (raising or lowering the rolling jib), is the answer to challenging wind conditions. If you want to stay ahead of the pack, you need maximum acceleration.

Details: The jib’s extra 4m2 of sail has the added advantage of improving the airflow to the main sail. Together, the two sails form an integrated aerodynamic system. The jib includes a small transparent window to give you a better view when maneuvering.

Material: The optimal material for the jib is Dacron. Only this material guarantees hassle-free operation and durability. To be properly furled, a sail must be flexible enough to wrap around a tight radius and Dacron delivers.

The theory: The jib is a triangular foresail that sits ahead of the catamaran. Its tack is fixed to the bowsprit and needs to be worked when tacking. As the clew of the jib is further aft than the mast (meaning the jib and mainsail overlap), it is called a “genoa”.In general, the jib makes only a minor contribution to propulsion when compared to a main sail. Its crucial function is as an airfoil, increasing performance and overall stability by reducing turbulence on the main sail's leeward side.
